#1 - Take Pictures / Ignore the scale

This is what has proven to be most valuable to myself and something i would advise everybody to do. 

I know it can be hard to do as a lot of time when you first start working out the last thing you want to be doing is getting your kit off in front of a camera. The first time I decided to get in shape this was me, there was no way I was going to get all my jiggly bits out to take a photo of, 3 months later however I regretted it because I couldn’t tell if I had made any progress and slowly slipped out of training again. 

So this time I made 100% sure that, no matter how daft I felt, I stood infront of the camera and took pictures, I’d like to stress these were for myself only and didn’t plan on showing them to anyone.

As you can see by the image here, the confidence I gained from my training means I now don’t care who see’s what I was like, I don’t plan on looking like that again.

This was me, the 2nd time I started training. 

I would advise everyone to take photos every week of their training schedule, and when comparing for improvements, compare back to pictures a few weeks previous, and also the original picture. You will be amazed at how much you can change without realising. 

Don’t be scared if at first you don’t see changes, the odds are you wont for the first month or two anyway. 

Anyway, 6 months later here was my latest picture before I went away, quite a difference. Don’t get me wrong, I am no where near finished or where I want to be but it is a decent step in the right direction.

You will also notice that I said to ignore the scales, this is another important reason of taking photos. 

Muscle weighs more than fat, so at times it can seem on the scales like you are making no progress when in fact you could have lost 3lb of fat and put on 3lb of muscle. However images will show the improvement in your appearance, therefore keeping up motivation, and propelling you to the next level.
